Tuesday, May 30, 2006 Been reading a book written by Tony Parsons, titled "The Family Way". Was pretty touched by the story line. Although I might be a tiny bit late in getting the chance to read this book, but I'm glad that bare minimum, I managed to get the chance to read it. In Tony Parsons's book, he brings out something that has never came across my mind, something that sets me thinking and now.. blogging about it. Hope my penny of thoughts doesn't bore you to tears. What is actually is a family? From the eyes of xiaobudian, I believe that family is those that are always around her. Encouraging her in every way, giving her lots of praises for achieving simples things that goes from taking a tiny step to taking her first teaspoon of bitter medicine. Life's just so simple to her.. Having a younger sister in the house definitely reminds me of the time when we progresses, to the the golden age of being a teen... some of us start to drift from our family, subconsciously placing friendship/relationships way above our family. To us, friends are the ones who truely understand us, we been through all the "hardship" together, we dream of ever lasting love/friendship.. we felt hurt and betrayed when we suffered a lost of relationship/friendship and not forgetting the strong sense of the existence of "generation gap" between our parents/siblings and us. To us, friends are our family. Slowly as we enter into the early twenties, we start to mature in our thinking and being to appreciate the values of family. Perhaps it's the success of the education/media influence that cause me to believe that life of people from single parent families are bleak and dark.. but Tony Parsons brought out the brighter side of single parent family. A family is not simply = dad + mum + siblings. It's more of (for example) family = dad + siblings + love +care + (most importantly) support for each other. Come to think of it, although my sample size is small, but it so happens that most of my friends who come from broken family seems to have better relationships with their siblings as compared to some of those from complete family. Like what people says - You gain some, you loss some.. haha.. kinda ironic but that's life..  Here's the cover page of the book.. for those who are interested to read hee.. sucre Frozen on 8:07 PM
